Come now, you who are rich, weep and wail over the misery to come upon you. Your riches have rotted and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and consume your flesh like fire. You have hoarded treasure in the last days. James 5:1-3

He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like foliage. Proverbs 11:28
Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be conceited and not to put their hope in the uncertainty of wealth, but in God, who richly provides all things for us to enjoy. Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, and to be generous and ready to share, treasuring up for themselves a firm foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life. 1 Timothy 6:17-19
Then He told them a parable: “The ground of a certain rich man produced an abundance. So, he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, since I have nowhere to store my crops?’ Then he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and will build bigger ones, and there I will store up all my grain and my goods. Luke 12:16-21
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. Proverbs 27:1

So, it is God who decides to show mercy. We can neither choose it nor work for it. Romans 9:16-18
You might say in your heart, “The power and strength of my hands have made this wealth for me.” But remember that it is the Lord your God who gives you the power to gain wealth.”
This is what the Lord says: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, nor the strong man in his strength, nor the wealthy man in his riches. But let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord, who exercises loving devotion, justice, and righteousness on the earth, for I delight in these things,” declares the Lord. Jeremiah 9:23-24
